PERIOD PAIN - Why You Must Take Action Now

Although period pain is common it is not normal.  Ladies in-tune with their bodies can feel the nuances of their menstrual cycles, but pain is an indication there could be something else going on which could have detrimental emotional, psychological and physiological effects.

 What is period pain?

Anything from the crampy, painful, achey feeling women may get a few days out from their period which is annoying but bearable.  Then you could have the more extreme symptoms such as pain in the lower back, stomach, even legs, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and loose bowels which can be debilitating and impact daily life.

Why do some women get period pain?

General period pain is due to the over production of inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins which causes spasms, cramping and pain. The overproduction of these chemicals could be caused by inflammatory triggers which we are exposed to constantly in the 21st century.  The bombardment of environmental toxins causes a cascade of inflammatory responses that then has a flow on effect on hormones.  This can then lead to hormonal imbalances.

Other reasons women may have period pain is due to medical conditions such as;

 Ø  Adenomyosis

Is a condition in which the cells that normally form a lining in the uterus also grow in the muscle wall of the uterus.  It is common to also have endometriosis alongside adenomyosis.

Ø  Endometriosis

Is a condition in which cells similar to those found in the lining of the uterus (endometrium), grow outside the uterus.

In both these conditions the cells outside the uterus undergo the same changes as the lining cells of the uterus causing abnormal uterus cell growth, bleeding and pain.

Ø  Uterine fibroids

Are noncancerous growths in the wall of the uterus which can cause pain.

Ø  Pelvic Inflammatory disease

Is infection of the female reproductive organs, usually caused by sexually transmitted bacteria.

Ø  Cervical stenosis

Is when the opening of the cervix is small enough to impede menstrual flow, causing painful increase of pressure within the uterus.

Why you must take action NOW?

Whatever the case, period pain is a signal that there is an underlying issue and needs to be found and treated accordingly.  Although tempting, taking pain medication can lead to bigger problems in the end.  Taken regularly, these meds can cause an array of symptoms and conditions, include stomach ulcers, gastritis, leaky gut syndrome and can even mess with your FERTILTY!

The suffering related to period pain is unnecessary and can be managed really well through nutrition and lifestyle habits. We can help with symptom relief while we also address the root cause.
